Third Coast Clay first opened its doors in Franklin, Tennessee in 1999, introducing the Franklin community to the creative concept of pottery painting. We’re still located in the historic Factory at Franklin and remain a favorite local spot for special occasions and connecting with friends and family.
Where did we get our name?
In the music industry, the Nashville–Franklin area is often called the “3rd Coast” — a creative hub alongside New York and Los Angeles. We wanted a name that felt imaginative, artistic, and rooted in our hometown spirit. From there, the mermaid swam into the story… and the rest is history.

our founder
Deborah Brannan, founder and Chief Mermaid of Third Coast Clay, had a simple idea: people need a place to escape and create. A cozy place where everyone is welcome regardless of experience or artistic ability. The Factory at Franklin provided the perfect setting for such a place. Thanks to a loyal and ever-growing group of customers (and a team of very dedicated “mermaids”), what started as a vision has become a local legacy.
