Our Story

Purple Mermaid

What’s in a Name?

We're a locally-owned and operated studio and we wanted a local name. We discovered that the Nashville/Franklin area is considered the “third” coast in the music industry (after Los Angeles and New York). We loved the idea of an imaginary coast and since we’re mermaids…….well it was meant to be!

Chief Mermaid, Deborah Brannan, opened the studio in the popular 12 South neighborhood of Nashville in 1997. After a few years, the studio moved to the historic Factory at Franklin where it’s been happily located ever since. She loves taking her dog, Baker to romp at the dog park at Harlinsdale Farm or watching documentaries and drinking Dos Perros at the Belcourt Theatre.

Mermaid-in-Charge, Rachel McConnell, joined the Coast while studying fashion design at O’More College of Art and Design. She keeps things running smoothly between the two locations in Franklin. She spends her time off gardening, antiquing and drinking tea with her black cat, Vincent.
